Heart & Crown, Ottawa ON

I saved this place for my last Canada post (until I return, of course) because the impact of what I ate here formed a substance abuse problem for me. We found ourselves absolutely starving and headed for Heart & Crown in the Byward Market as my boyfriend had fond memories of eating there before.

I’m not a food snob, but on this occasion I was inwardly reluctant as I wanted somewhere Instagram-able, and this was just a pub – how utterly foolish I was.

Smoked Salmon BLT

The Afternoon Special

This soup was absolutely to die for.

The toastie (for confused Canadians who I didn’t get to explain to in person, grilled cheese sandwiches are called toasties over here) was also to die for. Beautiful

THER’S YER INSTAGRAM SHOT.

This was incredible. As a result, since returning back to Scotland I have probably boosted Heinz’s share price single handedly because I’m eating so much tomato soup! I can’t get enough. I’m also testing the combination of the Heinz cream soup with tomato & basil or slow roasted chunky tomato soups mixed in to try and replicate exactly what Heart &Crown serve!

When I’m on holiday I don’t repeat venues for food. Heart & Crown, congratulations! You broke me. I had to have another After School Soefkal before I left! And I’m coming back!
