#GIFTED
I don’t know about everyone else, but when I was asked to pop in and visit the new Revolution Bar, my mind shot (ha, see what I did there?) back to 2007 when I was on a team night out with my call centre buddies necking bubblegum vodka shots off a paddle.
When I arrived, I realised that the cocktail bar and restaurant is actually housed in the former Tunnel Nightclub, where back in 2004, my proudest moment was managing to sneak into a *Glasgow* club rather than a local one for for £1 drinks – a novelty as a 17 year old.
Let’s just say that both Revolution and I have both changed – and become significantly classier – since then! I was really surprise by how beautiful the new Revolution Bar is on, and how lovely a little patch and hidden gem that part of the street is!
Based on their Instagram geo-tag, they’re definitely a go-to bar at the weekend, but our experience was for a midweek dinner. I’m 100% coming back for cocktails as I was driving and had such FOMO seeing a girl at the table across from me with a beautiful looking drink!
Cajun Popcorn Shrimp
Oh my god these were crazily addictive! The small but perfectly formed battered shrimp bites had a lovely little pop of cajun spice and came with a with zesty lemon mayo. You could eat them forever and never cease to want more!
Jalapeño Popper Spring Roll
These were a great novelty and were exactly what you’d expect – spring rolls stuffed with a jalapeño, which was also stuffed with cream cheese – there is a stuffing theme here! They were served with super nippy ghost chilli ketchup and some sour cream to cool you back down! I really liked them!
Sticky Chicken
YUM x 1000! These were the perfect bar bites! The chunks of fried chicken are soaked in Rib Tickler BBQ sauce and are just the sweetest, stickiest title parcels of joy. These are a good alternative to chicken wings if bones freak you out or you don’t want the beautiful mess of BBQ wings.
Stateside Wings
These were average at best – the wings really didn’t have much meat on them, so that aside, they were well prepared, flavoured and seasoned, so I did enjoy them. They were crispy with a hot ‘n’ spicy flavour, perfectly coupled with a beautiful blue cheese dip and spring onions. The blue cheese dip was perfect with the sticky chicken too.
Denver Fries
Absolute filth. These beautifully crispy skin-on fries were just my style! The fries are piled high with creamy peppercorn sauce, pulled salt beef and topped with manchego cheese. This was quite heavy but addictively delicious.
We ordered a bunch of snacky items to have a good cheat night meal (I say that for imagery alone…we are both 10 months behind on our 2018 health kick…) but there were some really beautiful salad and grazing options that I will totally be hitting up when the nice weather is back! We were served by various staff members, all very helpful and friendly and generally the bar provided a perfect smart-casual evening out!
Revolution has definitely shot up my list of places to go for a few cocktails with bar bites! I can see that it would be a great place to start, have or end a night out in!
