Padano Pizza & Pasta, Rutherglen

I do love a good old bowl of Minestrone soup, and pasta in general is a food that fills me with warm fuzzy thoughts! I noticed a buzz on social media about Padano in Rutherglen, and just had to give it a try.

It was actually their pizza that lured me in, but I ended up being swayed by the pasta when I got there! I’ve been told I have to go back and have a pizza, so I will most definitely oblige!

Polpette al Sugo

These were absolutely to die for. Spaghetti and meatballs is amazing, but garlic bread and meatballs is even better! These homemade meatballs were served in a rich – and quite salty, but not too salty – tomato sauce with toasted  traditional Italian bread. It was total comfort food! My favourite!

Caprese Con Crudo

When the weather lightens up, I can’t help but crave simple salads like this one to eat in the sun! If you eat these salads during rubbish weather, I always find them really bland….but in summer they’re fresh and delicious! Salad Psychology.  The beautifully creamy and fresh mozzarella was served with chunky slices of tomato, salad  leaves and  Parma ham. It was then drizzled with gorgeous balsamic and extra virgin olive oil. Simple beauty.

Calamari Fritti

My god, I love calamari but it just isn’t photogenic at all! Wee pale chubby worms. Rest assured, they were beautifully soft on the inside and the tempura was light and crisp. Served with sweet chilli dip.

Tagliatelle Pesto e Gamber

It’s so hard to draw a compromise between all the Parmesan cheese you want on your dish, and having it so drowned in the stuff you can’t get a picture of what you ordered. Hard life, eh? Pictured here is a beautiful ribbon pasta coated in sweet basil pesto and tossed with the most HUGE and juicy belters of king prawns. It’s clear the chefs from this restaurant are first in line at the fish market!

Calzone

My friend ordered the chicken, mozzarella and red pepper calzone, and to be honest these are terrible pictures, and the bit I ate didn’t blow me away. But I’m going back for pizza another time, so let’s just move on….

Spaghetti Allo Scoglio

I saved the best for last…my true love – seafood spaghetti! The amazing mixed seafood selection of calamari, clams, king prawns and mussels in a garlic, white wine, and chilli sauce with a drop of tomato. As I said before, their seafood really is top notch here. So fresh, juicy and the sheer size was incredible.

My visit to Padano was a great success – the staff were really warm and welcoming, and the food speaks for itself! I just need to get onto their pizza bandwagon and see what all the fuss is about…
